A string of incidents across Newport has kept police and emergency services on the move, with thefts, fire hazards and multiple late-night callouts recorded over several days.

From a big night out to police callouts

Police and paramedics were first called to Gladstone Street just before 12.30pm on Saturday, 4 April, where a group of teenagers were found intoxicated following what was described as a “big night”. They were ultimately sent home with their parents.

Less than 12 hours later, officers were back on the same street. Just before 1.00am on Sunday, 5 April, police again responded to reports of an intoxicated person requiring assistance.

Powerlines down and fire near shops

Emergency crews were also called to Beaconsfield Street just before 6.00pm on Saturday after reports of powerlines across the roadway. Utility crews were already on site working to resolve the issue.

The following morning brought a more serious incident. Just before 9.45am on Sunday, firefighters responded to smoke coming from an electrical pit near shops on Barrenjoey Road.

Crews located an electrical fire but were unable to fully extinguish it until power was isolated. They worked to contain the خطر and protect nearby properties before using extinguishers to put the fire out once the site was made safe. Utility crews remained on scene to assess damage and carry out repairs.

Break-in and theft incidents reported

Police are also investigating a break-in on Gladstone Street, reported just before 1.45am on Sunday.

Further theft reports followed, including property stolen from a vehicle parked at Yachtsmans Paradise just before 12.15pm on Tuesday, 7 April.

Man hospitalised after collapse

Emergency services were called to Barrenjoey Road just before 12.15pm on Monday, 6 April, after an elderly man collapsed near local shops.

Surf Life Saving NSW volunteers were first on scene, providing initial care to the 84-year-old until paramedics arrived. He was treated for minor injuries and taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Another crash caps off the run of incidents

Police also responded to a motor vehicle collision on Gladstone Street just after 1.00pm on Tuesday.

A week that kept crews busy

While the incidents are not believed to be linked, they reflect a steady run of calls for service across Newport — ranging from avoidable risks to more serious emergencies.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant, secure their property, and take extra care around electrical hazards and late-night activity.
