Bilgola Plateau Home Heads to Auction After Almost Six Decades

A piece of Bilgola Plateau history is changing hands as a family prepares to sell the home they’ve owned since building it in 1968.

Gary and Dorothy Teague commissioned architect David Stenner to design their family residence at 20 Mirrabooka Street almost 60 years ago on an elevated 759-square-metre block. The property will go to auction on 5 March with a price guide of $2.45 million.

Stenner was known for his work during the 1960s through 1980s as part of the Sydney School architectural movement, which favoured raw materials like timber, stone and clinker brick, along with split-level designs that worked with the natural landscape. The Teagues, who were creatives themselves, worked alongside Stenner in bringing their vision to life.

The six-bedroom home showcases features typical of the era, including raked ceilings, a tall sandstone fireplace and extensive windows that capture views across Salt Pan Cove and the wider Pittwater area.

According to selling agent Adrian Venturi from McGrath Pittwater Avalon, the property’s multigenerational floor plan has attracted significant interest. The home functions as two separate dwellings, with each level containing its own kitchen, bathroom, laundry, living space and three bedrooms.

Venturi noted that the length of the Teague family’s ownership reflects a broader pattern in the street. Last August, he sold another property at 32 Mirrabooka Street for $2.76 million, which had also never previously been offered for sale and was built by the original family.

The Domain House Price Report for December 2025 shows Bilgola Plateau has experienced strong capital growth, with house prices rising 38.9 per cent over five years to reach a median of $2.65 million.

Transport options in the area have improved recently with the introduction of the Keoride ride-sharing service and the growing use of e-bikes. The service connects residents to Avalon, Newport or Mona Vale at approximately a quarter of the cost of traditional ride-sharing services, with concessions available for children and seniors.

The auction is scheduled for 5 March 2026.
