A man in his 50s was found dead at Newport Beach on Sunday, 15 December 2024. The body was recovered from the water following a major search operation.
Emergency services responded at 9:50 AM after receiving reports of concern for a swimmer in distress. Northern Beaches Police coordinated with Marine Area Command and Surf Life Saving NSW in the search effort.
Multiple rescue assets were deployed, including marine rescue vessels, the PolAir helicopter, and a Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter. After approximately two hours of searching, rescue teams located and retrieved the man’s body from the water at around 11:30 AM.
The deceased has not yet been identified. Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
